Cabin Fever

Help... We need ideas of things to do....
My family is getting cabin fever... We have been staying indoors because we have a lot of smoke from the many forest fires nearby. The smoke has been so thick it is like fog and we haven't had sun in almost a week. I know we shouldn't complain because we aren't victims of the fires or fighting the fires... But we are going nutty staying in the house... even in the rain and snow we go outside... so this is a big change for us... I think it is hardest on Hope, who loves to play out on the patio in the evenings... she misses her sandbox... We need ideas for bringing in that outdoor feeling... What would you do to bring some nature to the inside...

I assume you know about The Crafty Crow blog? It has tons of ideas. Also, for the girl that likes sand & dirt:

Try mixing up some colored rice or salt. Put it in a bucket or box which in turn is in a large shallow container like a baby bathtub or one of those under the bed plastic storage containers. Throw in some measuring cups, funnels, big spoons and the like and let her go at it. You could even go great guns and haul in a small blow up kiddy pool to put it in, but really who has room for that? Alternatively you could just bring in a bucket of regular sand or on the more expensive side, have you tried moon sand?

PS Have you gotten the 2 emails I sent you? I don't have your address to mail the painting to.

I had ever let the kids'camping tent stay at our living room for 2 days on rainy days. They loved to sleep, draw, eat, etc inside the tent. Funny to see them like that, a little bit messy after all, but it was so so fun!!

We are in the same situation! The smoke seems to be clearing a bit, so there is hope! We have been doing a lot of homemade playdough, extra-long baths with all kinds of toys, drawing with our fingers in trays of cornmeal or flour, musical parades around the house, making & eating popsicles. Yesterday the girls set up a "beach" with towels, music, snacks, magazines and books. I am wishing you outside time soon!! :)
