A sandbox for Apartments

We live in an apartment... so our backyard consists of a nice back porch where we can have a little garden and play... This is the sandbox that I made last year. It consists of a cover with a locking lid... this is important because I don't always want to be cleaning up sand... and if it is open all the time it just invites a mess.

Inside the box there are hidden river rocks and glass rock "treasure."

(Sifting sand for treasure.)

We use a watering pot to add water... Which is even more fun...
Beware: This can be messy if left unsupervised... but it is manageable...
A screen door helps keep the mess on the porch. A broom easily sweaps up the whole mess and back goes the sand into the box...
("Can I come in mommy...")

I love that little sandbox! It's like a playground oasis!

Usually (it always happened to me) although we always wipe off the scattered sand and put it back to the box, we should have to prepare the new sand for the following year. Does it regularly happened to you?

What a great idea (the sandbox) I only have a small back yard so I might pinch your idea! - Your little girl is lovely, she looks so pretty in her new dress, I hope you get her mystery illness sorted soon. - Thank you too for your comment on my blog about my 'new' dressing table - Im going to rub it down and repaint it white and change the handles - Natalie x

Just popped over from Crafty Crow. Great idea, Happy Hut!

Walmart just had some colored sand on sale for $1... don't know if they still have it, but that might be fun for a small space, too! Also, baby powder works GREAT for getting sand off skin. It absorbs the moisture that's holding it on the skin.

This is a great idea!I have also used a smaller tupperware box and used it inside during the colder months. I've filled it with rice, oatmeal, and beans (depending on the age of the children)!
